You re going to want to try to dry the pad without removing the carpet especially if the pad seems to have only gotten a little damp and the subfloor seems dry. Carpet padding is like a sponge and will absorb a lot of water but it will not dry out. Cut the pad into strips roll it up and haul it outside.

So if you were to reuse the padding it will be damp and begin to mildew grow mold and smell under the carpeting. Now lay the carpeting back down flat so that it doesn t dry bunched up.

Accidents happen that result in the saturation of your carpet padding with water or liquids that require you to dry the padding. The first step to drying out carpet padding and carpeting post flood is actually removing the water.

Replace it to prevent the main carpet from becoming saturated with mold. Once the water is out peel back the carpeting watch out for those rusted sharp nails on the tackless stripping and remove the wet pad.
